Who doesn’t love a giant scoop of ice cream on a hot summer day? What’s your favorite? Strawberry, vanilla, maybe a wild and crazy rum raisin? You won’t find any of that at the ice cream shop in Kennebunkport that TripAdvisor named 6th best in the country. At Rococo it’s more like “Sweet Avocado Cayenne,” “Goat Cheese & Blackberry Chambord Swirl” and “Olive Oil, Rosemary Infused Caramel and Toasted Pepitas.” Yeah, those are ice cream flavors. Crazy right? I thought the same thing, but somehow the seemingly odd combinations work and keep customers clamoring for more. During a visit last week, one of the first questions I asked is, “What do kids order?” The lovely owner, Lauren Guptill, says kiddos go crazy for her Whoopie Pie flavor and she always makes sure to have a good-old chocolate on hand, too. So if you can’t decide if you’d rather have dinner or dessert, you may consider trying to satisfy both sweet and savory at Rococo.
